Irondale is located in Jefferson County, Alabama, approximately five miles east of Birmingham and 100 miles north of Montgomery. The city is home to a population of more than 12,000 residents and boasts over 1,000 businesses based largely in construction, retail, and manufacturing.

Irondale is served by the Jefferson County School District and is home to the Jefferson Christian Academy, Shades Valley Theatre Academy, and Jefferson County International Baccalaureate School, ranked 11th among “America’s Most Challenging High Schools” for 2015 by the Washington Post.

Irondale’s fabulous seasonal climate produces hot humid summers and moderately cool winters – perfect weather for enjoying the spectacular Central Alabama outdoors! The city is bordered to the north and east by the Cahaba River, a popular destination for kayaking and canoeing. The Cahaba Landing boasts a canoe launch pad, picnic facilities, and great fishing from the bank. Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve is located just outside the city. The 1,038-acre urban preserve features a state-of-the-art nature center, animal exhibits, and over 12 miles of walking trails.

Irondale’s historic downtown is the focal point of the community. The district features an assortment of antique shops and art galleries and is home to the legendary Irondale Café, made famous by the blockbuster movie, “Fried Green Tomatoes” that starred Irondale native, Fannie Flagg.

The Station at Grant’s Mill is the city’s newest attraction. The multi-use shopping and entertainment complex features a collection of shopping and dining options and is home to Adventure Park, an indoor/outdoor activity park that features a climbing wall, elevated rope course, indoor trampoline arena, miniature golf, bungee jumping, zip lining, water rolling, and the Watazumi, the world's largest inflatable slide.

Situated along Interstate 20 and Interstate 459, just five miles east of the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, Irondale is a great place to live in north-central Alabama!
